A 1.9 specific gravity wall is sized for a liquid nearly twice as dense as water, and 1,200 pounds of resin is what that takes on a tank thirteen and a half feet tall, 300 pounds more than the certified 1.5 wall in this same shell. The certification is against ASTM D1998; the HDPE tank wall thickness guide explains the sizing logic and why a tall wall is inspected in the headspace. Full, it puts 61,799 pounds on a 90 inch circle at the rating: a designed slab that touches every inch of the floor, following the concrete pad sizing guide, inside a berm sized to the tank, a wind strap on the empty tank, and access to the manway from a fixed platform. The N43 is the certified 1.5 wall for coagulants and brines that never approach this density, 300 pounds lighter; the N48 is the heavy-wall linear tank at this tank's weight, the N40 cross-linked polyethylene for oxidizers, the N46 another linear grade. The 8190000C26 holds 3,650 gallons on a 102 inch base 37 inches shorter, and the 7421100N45 lays 4,000 gallons of this same certified 1.9 wall down to 100 inches on a 120 inch base.

What is fitted

• Access: 18 inch threaded, vented manway, 163 inches up; a dip tube for the fill, an outdoor vent on acid and caustic, and vent capacity to match the tanker.
• Outlet: name the chemical when ordering so the bulkhead fitting matches it; a flanged transition, an expansion joint, and a valve supported off the slab.
• Service limit: 120 F / 48 C.
• Listing: ASTM certification.

Pick a level sender rated for the chemical and bring its reading to ground level, so the number never needs a climb; keep the manway shut against vapor loss and shade a light-sensitive chemical. Put a regulated chemical in a single wall tank and the berm around it has to hold all of it. Insulate or drain the outlet valve and the first run of pipe wherever the ground freezes.

When the truck arrives

A tanker's pump moves liquid faster than a manway vent can pass air, so either the vent is sized to the unload rate or the fill comes in through its own top bulkhead with a separate vent line. Run the fill pipe to the floor so caustic or coagulant does not free-fall and foam. Diluting a dense chemical makes heat, so a batch is built water first and chemical second, never the reverse. The first tanker into a new tank is a supervised job, slab edge and outlet fitting checked as it fills, and from then on each load is logged by date and strength.

Applications

Ferric and other dense coagulants at a plant with a berm and a small pad, acid feed for pH control, heavy brine at plant scale, and any 3,900 gallon vessel of dense chemical where the certification has to be on file. One chemical per tank, labeled for both inspectors at once.

A crane or a forklift with long forks sets 1,200 pounds on the slab. Strap it, water-fill it once to the manway, hold it, then drain and dry before the chemical connection is made, and keep the certification paperwork with the project file. Mark the vent and the outlet on the outside of the shell so nobody caps the wrong one in the dark.
