Fittings, gaskets, and the mistake to avoid

The fitting and gasket material has to match the chemical, not just the tank. Most of the salts, hydroxides, and glycols above run on PVC fittings with EPDM gaskets, but several chemicals break that pattern and are where the expensive mistakes happen. Hydrochloric acid (37%), hydrogen peroxide (50%), phosphoric acid (85%), and sodium hypochlorite (below 16.5%) need PVC fittings with Viton gaskets; hydrofluoric acid (48%) and hydrofluosilicic acid (26%) need PP or PVC fittings with Viton; sulfuric acid (98%) needs CPVC fittings with Viton. Two chemicals leave plastic entirely: peracetic acid (30%) needs 316 stainless fittings with Aflas gaskets, and DEF needs 316 stainless with EPDM. The other expensive mistake is treating SG as a formality. At 1.9 this tank is already at the dense-chemistry end of the polyethylene range, and there is no higher-rated poly step-up above it, so verify your liquid's specific gravity at operating temperature stays at or under 1.9 rather than planning to size up.
