5000 Gallon Vertical Liquid Storage Tank

Twelve and a half feet tall on an eight and a half foot circle

This is the tall 5000 gallon shape: it keeps the base to 102 inches, the same footprint as Norwesco's smaller tall shells, and takes the volume upward. That makes it the one to buy when the pad is fixed and the sky is not, and the one to avoid under a roof. Measure the clear height at the final position and at the lowest obstruction on the path in; 152 inches is twelve feet eight. Plan a ladder for the manway and strap the tank to a wall, a frame or ground anchors before the first fill, because an empty shell this tall is a sail. Full, it puts over thirty tons on the pad: a poured slab checked with an instrument, a steel deck plate, or a compacted and screeded bed with a retained edge. Openings, fittings and the pad

1. Outlet. A 3 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead fitting, factory installed low in the wall, with a 2 inch reducer in the box. Run 3 inch for a pump suction, a fire connection or a fast gravity drain, or fit the reducer to match 2 inch hose and valves. Support the first length of pipe on its own.
2. Manway. A 16 inch threaded vented manway on top for the fill hose, a float and cleaning. Leave the vent open.
3. The pad. Continuous, level contact across the whole 102 inch circle. No rails, no pallet, no shim. A slight fall away keeps the tank out of its own overflow; leave room to reach the outlet with two hands and a wrench.
4. The liquid. Up to 1.5 specific gravity and 120 F. Heavier liquids need the 1.9 rated heavy duty version below.

The tank is an oversize LTL load, 152 by 102 by 102 inches lying down on the trailer and 990 lb as shipped, from the nearest of the ten Norwesco plants that build it. Standing a shell this tall takes equipment or several people, and the approach, the gate and the set-down spot all have to take it; plan that before delivery day. At the tailgate, check the part number 40164 on the bill of lading, confirm the reducer came with it, look over the shell for transit damage before the driver leaves, stand it with the outlet toward the pipe run, and fill it with water the first time.
