Green or black

Both colors block light well enough to keep algae down. Green is chosen for water that people drink, because the color is a visual signal in a yard full of black chemical and septic tanks, and because a green tank in the landscape draws less attention than a black one. The black tank is the lighter, less expensive shell and runs cooler in some climates because it does not carry the extra resin.
