Why the bolted outlet matters

The outlet is the fitting that lives under the full head of the tank and gets a pump hung off it. A bolted flange spreads the sealing load around a ring of stainless bolts and can be re-torqued after the wall relaxes on first fill, where a bulkhead depends on one nut staying tight. If the tank will be plumbed to a pressure pump or drained and refilled often, that is the outlet you want. The inlet is a 1-1/2 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead, and access is an 18 inch threaded vented manway; keep the vent clear, because a pump emptying 1,500 gallons quickly will otherwise pull the wall inward.

Five ways to hold 1,500 gallons

Read the table as a decision. Under a low roof, the 86 inch tanks are the only 1,500 gallon options, and among them the WB47 carries 60 more pounds of wall than this tank for one more inch of height, which is the heavier-duty choice for a tank that will stay full in sun for years. Where floor space is the limit, the 65 inch tanks hold the same water on a footprint 21 inches narrower and reach 114 inches. The pad

Full, the WB46 weighs 12,510 pounds on an 86 inch circle. In hot climates the low profile helps here too: a shorter column of water in a wider tank warms and cools more evenly through a day than a tall narrow one, which is easier on both the water and the wall.
