Why a dome, and why six feet

Lid, fittings, limits

• Access: 18 inch lid at the crown of the dome, 72 inches up, opened from a step; the dome is walkable for inspection, with a fall anchor where the site rules ask for one.
• Fittings: specified at order. Tell us the liquid and where the inlet, outlet and overflow go, and the bulkhead fittings are installed to match; a flexible connector between the outlet and hard pipe, and the valve supported off the pad.

Six feet of water above a base outlet keeps a pressure pump's suction flooded to the last few inches, and a float switch at low level shuts it off before it runs dry. Keep the lid closed and screened so nothing falls in and nothing breeds, and vent the tank for the pump's draw, because a dome that is built to take vacuum still should not be asked to. Where it freezes, wrap or drain the outlet valve and the first pipe run; the body takes ice from the top down without harm.
