4,500 gallons at 1.35 specific gravity under eight feet, ASTM certified
The Snyder 7000400N39 is a white polyethylene vertical liquid storage tank, 143 inches across and only 91 inches tall, holding 4,500 gallons at 900 pounds. Its wall is rated for a specific gravity of 1.35, or 52,542 pounds of contents against 37,530 for water, which covers water, brine and hypochlorite as delivered, it is sold with ASTM certification for jobs that need the paper, and the twelve foot base puts a tanker load under a barn roof with the manway reached from a short ladder. The manway is 18 inches, threaded and vented, the warranty is 3 years, and the freight is oversize.

Buying the wall the liquid needs, laid low
A tank's specific gravity rating is the density of the heaviest liquid its wall is sized to hold for its service life, and most of what a small plant or a farm stores sits well under a 1.35 wall, so this grade carries water, brine and hypochlorite as delivered with margin at 900 pounds of resin, the lightest certified wall on this base. The certification is to ASTM D1998, which is a wall-thickness standard at heart; the HDPE tank wall thickness guide explains the sizing logic and why the headspace is where a wall ages, and the freeboard sizing guide works out the usable volume once thermal expansion is accounted for. Full, it puts 52,542 pounds on a 143 inch circle at the rating, and the low shape puts it there without the lever arm a tall tank has in wind; a compacted, screeded gravel base or a slab in full contact carries it, per the concrete pad sizing guide. The tank sizing calculator tells you whether 4,500 gallons covers the draw, and the tank sizing guide covers days of supply.
Grades on the 143 x 91 inch tank, and the sizes beside it
| Part | Gallons | Diameter x height | Empty weight |
|---|---|---|---|
| 7000400N39 (this tank, 1.35 SG, ASTM certified) | 4,500 | 143 x 91 in | 900 lb |
| 7000400N43 (1.5 SG, ASTM certified) | 4,500 | 143 x 91 in | 900 lb |
| 7000400N45 (1.9 SG, ASTM certified) | 4,500 | 143 x 91 in | 1,100 lb |
| 7000400N29 | 4,500 | 143 x 91 in | 900 lb |
| 7000400N33 | 4,500 | 143 x 91 in | 900 lb |
| 5210000N40 (tall, XLPE) | 4,400 | 90 x 182 in | 1,100 lb |
| 7000500N40 (XLPE) | 4,600 | 120 x 116 in | 1,450 lb |
The N43 is the certified 1.5 wall at this tank's weight and the N45 the certified 1.9 wall, 200 pounds heavier; the N29 and N33 are other grades in this shell. The 5210000N40 stands 4,400 gallons on a 90 inch base at 182 inches in cross-linked resin for a small pad, and the 7000500N40 holds 4,600 gallons of cross-linked resin on a 120 inch base at 116 inches.

Openings as shipped
- Access: 18 inch threaded, vented manway, 91 inches up; filled by truck through a dip tube, vented outside on anything that fumes, and size the vent for a tanker's unload rate.
- Outlet: the bulkhead fitting is chosen for the liquid at order time; a flexible connector between the bulkhead and hard pipe, an expansion joint, and the valve supported off the pad.
- Service limit: 120 F / 48 C.
- Listing: ASTM certification.
The white wall shows the level in daylight; a float switch for low level protects a pump, and the low shape keeps the suction flooded to the last few inches. On hypochlorite, shade the tank and buy at short turnover. In a freezing climate insulate or drain the outlet valve and the first run of pipe; the body takes ice from the top down without harm.
Unloading without a spill
The truck's pump outruns the manway vent, so size the vent for the unload rate or give the fill its own top bulkhead and vent line. The fill pipe reaches the floor, so the liquid enters below the surface instead of free-falling and foaming. The first delivery into a new tank is watched from start to finish, with the pad edge and the outlet fitting checked as the level climbs, and from then on each load is logged by date and strength.
In service
Well storage for a farm under a low roof, irrigation and stock water, hypochlorite or brine at a small plant that needs the certification on file, and a fire reserve where the low center of gravity counts. One liquid per tank, labeled.
Freight and unloading
At 143 inches across the 7000400N39 is oversize freight (NMFC 156600) on a flatbed at a lane rate, often with an escort; the freight cost estimator prices the move to your ZIP, and the price on this page is before freight. A forklift with long forks or a small crane sets 900 pounds on the pad. One water fill to the manway, a hold, a look at the outlet fitting, and the certification goes in the project file. The first fill is the only cheap time to find a problem, so do it in daylight with someone watching the base.
