The Snyder Industries 4500 Gallon HDPE Vertical Liquid Storage Tank is a Chowchilla, California-built vertical storage tank molded in white polyethylene to a 1.9 specific gravity rating - the heavy-duty end of the resin scale, which means the wall is engineered to hold liquids substantially denser than water. It stands 91 inches tall (about 7.6 feet) on a 143 x 143 inch footprint - a full 11.9-foot square pad - and is certified to ASTM D1998, the standard that governs linear and cross-linked polyethylene upright tank wall thickness. If you are sizing a water supply, a fire reserve, or general liquid storage at this volume, the numbers below are the ones that decide whether this vertical tank fits your site and your freight budget.

Does it work for your application

At 4500 gallons, filled with water this tank carries roughly 37,530 pounds of contents alone - so the pad and the soil under it have to be right before the first gallon goes in. The 1.9 specific gravity rating raises the maximum rated contents weight to 71,307 pounds, which means the shell is qualified for liquids up to 1.9 times the density of water. For ordinary water service that leaves you about 33,777 pounds of rated headroom above what water alone weighs - the shell is already over-spec'd for your duty, so you do not need a heavier-rated tank. The fitting package shown on the technical drawing on this page is a flange, an 18-inch PE threaded and vented fitting, and a manway with 15-inch access. The 18-inch fitting is threaded and vented, giving atmospheric venting on fill and draw, and the manway opening is sized for entry and cleanout. Because the pack lists fitting types but not bolt pattern or bore, confirm the flange bolt pattern and gasket size against your mating flange before install - gasket fit is the install gate. Use the Tank Sizing Calculator and the Tank Sizing Guide to confirm working volume against your draw-down and refill schedule, and call 866-418-1777 if you need the exact fitting spec confirmed before you order.

The pad and the wall - where these tanks actually fail

The mistake that ends a vertical HDPE tank early is rarely the liquid side - it is the pad and the upper wall. A 91-inch column of water exerts its greatest hydrostatic load at the base, which is why ASTM D1998 dictates a graduated wall that is thickest at the bottom; a tank set on an out-of-level or undersized pad concentrates stress and short-circuits that engineering. Our guide on concrete pad sizing for above-ground polyethylene tanks walks the ACI 360R-10 framework for a 143 x 143 inch footprint at this weight. The companion piece on HDPE wall thickness at the vapor-saturated headspace explains why premature failures originate up top, where liquid-side inspection never reaches.

Fire reserve and freeze-prone sites

A 4500-gallon vertical tank is a common private fire-water reserve for rural and remote properties. If that is your use, our fire-water reservoir tank design guide covers NFPA 22 sizing discipline and the freeze-protection engineering cold-climate sites need so the reserve is liquid when you call on it.

This tank ships LTL freight from the Snyder plant in Chowchilla, California, and the 143-inch footprint sets the LTL dimensions and class that drive the cost - so a Western buyer ships short, while an Eastern buyer should pull a live ZIP quote early, since cross-country LTL on an 11.9-foot footprint is the dominant line item. Get a live number to your ZIP with our Freight Cost Estimator before you commit, and call 866-418-1777 for help matching tank, fittings, and pad to your install. Listed before freight; LTL is quoted live to your delivery ZIP.
