The full-density wall at a tanker load, certified

A 1.9 specific gravity wall is sized for a liquid nearly twice as dense as water, and the certification against ASTM D1998 is what says the wall was sized that way; the HDPE tank wall thickness guide explains the sizing logic and why the headspace is where a wall ages. Full, it puts 72,892 pounds on a 120 inch circle at the rating: a slab designed for the load and in contact with the whole floor, as the concrete pad sizing guide, inside a berm sized to the tank, wind straps on the tank while it is empty, and the manway reached from a short platform. The N43 is the certified 1.5 wall at this tank's weight for coagulants and brines that never approach this density; the N42 and N40 are cross-linked polyethylene for oxidizers, and the N46 another linear grade. The 7000400N45 is this same certified 1.9 wall laid down to 91 inches on a 143 inch base for a barn roof, and the 8210000N40 stands 4,650 gallons of cross-linked resin on a 102 inch base at 154 inches for a smaller pad.

What is fitted

• Access: 18 inch threaded, vented manway, 116 inches up; a dip tube for the fill, an outdoor vent on acid and caustic, and vent capacity to match the tanker.
• Outlet: name the chemical when ordering so the bulkhead fitting matches it; a flanged transition, an expansion joint, and a valve supported off the slab.
• Service limit: 120 F / 48 C.
• Listing: ASTM certification.

A sender matched to the chemical, read at ground level, means nobody goes up for a reading; a closed manway keeps the vapor in, and a light-sensitive chemical gets shade. Put a regulated chemical in a single wall tank and the berm around it has to hold all of it. Insulate or drain the outlet valve and the first run of pipe wherever the ground freezes.

When the truck arrives

A tanker's pump moves liquid faster than a manway vent can pass air, so either the vent is sized to the unload rate or the fill comes in through its own top bulkhead with a separate vent line. Run the fill pipe to the floor so caustic or coagulant does not free-fall and foam. Diluting a dense chemical makes heat, so a batch is built water first and chemical second, never the reverse. The first delivery into a new tank is watched from start to finish, with the slab edge and the outlet fitting checked as the level climbs, and from then on each load is logged by date and strength.

Applications

One water fill to the manway, a hold, a drain and a dry-out come before the chemical is piped in, and the certification paperwork stays with the project.
