The Snyder Industries 6500 Gallon Vertical Chemical Storage Tank is a 1.9 specific-gravity vessel molded in high density linear polyethylene (HDLPE) for demanding chemical service. As specified for this SKU it stands 152 inches tall on a 120 x 120 inch square footprint and holds 6,500 gallons at a 1.9 SG rating - meaning the wall is engineered to carry liquids up to 1.9 times the weight of water at full volume. That rating is what separates a true chemical vertical storage tank from a water-only tank of the same gallonage, and it places this Snyder vertical at the top of the HDLPE chemical range.

Will it hold your liquid - and how heavy does it get?

Filled with plain water this tank weighs about 54,210 lb. The 1.9 SG rating supports a maximum rated contents weight of roughly 102,999 lb, so dense chemicals like 50% ferric chloride or 98% sulfuric acid stay within the wall's design envelope. Plan the pad accordingly: a fully loaded chemical fill on a 120 x 120 inch footprint concentrates over 50 tons onto that square, so a level, properly engineered reinforced-concrete pad is not optional. Use the Tank Sizing Calculator and our Tank Sizing Guide to confirm the vessel and pad match your duty before you order. This tank is configured to order - outlet, bulkhead, and fitting locations are specified per your application, so call to confirm the layout before fabrication.

Chemical compatibility

This is an HDLPE tank with a 1.9 specific-gravity rating. Resin and SG together govern what you can store safely, so always size the fitting and gasket materials to the chemical, not just the tank wall. Below are chemicals the OEM chemical-resistance chart supports for this resin and SG rating, with the fitting and gasket materials called out per service. It also carries ratings for DEF (32.5%) and urea fleet and process storage, plus ozonated process water up to 10 PPM. Always confirm against the concentration- and temperature-specific OEM chart for your exact duty.

Read the gasket column closely. Most of the salts, glycols, and carbonates run fine on PVC fittings with EPDM gaskets, but the strong acids and oxidizers - hydrochloric (37%), hydrogen peroxide (50%), phosphoric (85%), and sodium hypochlorite (<16.5%) - keep PVC fittings yet step up to Viton gaskets, so you do not need to over-spec CPVC where the chart calls for PVC. Only 98% sulfuric acid jumps to CPVC, and peracetic acid alone calls for 316SS with Aflas. Matching gasket and fitting metallurgy to the chemical is the most common mistake on a tank this size, and it is the one that springs a leak at the bulkhead long before the wall ever fails. Verify every selection against the OEM chemical-resistance chart and our full Chemical Compatibility Database before committing. For instrumentation on a chemical vertical of this volume, see our guide on level gauge selection for chemical service.

The mistake to avoid on this tank

The single biggest error on a 1.9 SG chemical vertical is treating the SG rating as a free pass. The 1.9 rating defines the heaviest liquid the wall is built for at full fill; storing something denser, or running fittings and gaskets suited to water rather than the chemical, defeats the engineering. Confirm your liquid's specific gravity sits at or below 1.9, then build the outlet, bulkhead, and gasket package to the chemical. With a 50-ton chemical fill, secondary containment is the real attach to plan for here - compare options in our Snyder Captor Plus 110% containment vs UL-142 / SPCC writeup. Review the technical drawing on this page for fitting locations and overall dimensions before you finalize the layout.

This 6,500-gallon Snyder vertical storage tank ships LTL freight, quoted live to your ZIP from the nearest Snyder plant - Albertville, AL or Merced, CA. Get an exact freight number with our Freight Cost Estimator, or call 866-418-1777 to lock in dimensions, fittings, and a delivery quote. Snyder builds the 6500-gallon vertical in more than one diameter-and-height configuration; for the alternates, see our buyer's guides for the 120 x 147 build and the 119 x 150 build, and call to confirm which footprint fits your site.
