Openings, instruments, containment

• Outlet: 3 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead fitting with a 2 inch reducer siphon tube to the floor; a flanged transition, an expansion joint, and a valve supported off the slab. A siphon outlet needs a pump or a prime; it does not gravity-drain below the fitting.
• Access: 20 inch threaded, vented manway, 152 inches up; vent outside on caustic and acid service, fill through a dip tube, and size the vent for a tanker's unload rate.
• Service limit: 120 F / 48 C.

Receiving a tanker

The driver's pump can deliver faster than the manway vent can breathe, so the vent is sized for the unload rate or the fill goes through a dedicated top bulkhead with its own vent line. The fill pipe runs to the floor so caustic or coagulant does not free-fall and foam. Dense liquids heat up when diluted, so a tank topped off with water for a batch is filled water first, chemical second, never the other way. The first delivery into a new tank is watched from start to finish, with the slab edge and the outlet fitting checked as the level climbs.

Typical duty
