Manway, outlet, limits

• Access: 18 inch threaded, vented manway, 107 inches up; vent outside on acid and caustic service, fill through a dip tube, and size the vent for the delivery pump.
• Outlet: the bulkhead fitting is chosen for the chemical at order time; a flanged transition and a valve supported off the pad, in the material the chemical calls for.
• Service limit: 120 F / 48 C.

Choose the level sender for the chemical and read it at ground level; keep the manway shut against vapor loss and shade a light-sensitive chemical. Put a regulated chemical in a single wall tank and the berm around it has to hold all of it. Label it so the fire inspector and the workplace inspector read the same thing. In a freezing climate insulate or drain the outlet valve and the first run of pipe.

Vent first, then fill

A delivery truck's pump can push air out faster than a stock vent can pass it, so the vent is sized for the unload rate or the fill goes through a dedicated top bulkhead with its own vent line. Run the fill pipe to the floor so caustic or coagulant does not free-fall and foam. Diluting a dense chemical makes heat, so a batch is built water first and chemical second, never the reverse. The first tanker into a new tank is a supervised job, slab edge and outlet fitting checked as it fills, and from then on each load is logged by date and strength.

Where it earns its keep
