The Snyder 8160000N43 is a white high density linear polyethylene vertical liquid storage tank, 90 inches across and 127 inches tall, holding 3,000 gallons at 675 pounds. Its wall is rated for a specific gravity of 1.5, or 37,530 pounds of contents against 25,020 for water, so it holds brine, fertilizer solution and coagulant as delivered as well as water, and the seven and a half foot base puts a tanker's partial load under an eleven foot roof with the 18 inch threaded, vented manway reached from a short platform. Top and bottom connections
- Access: 18 inch threaded, vented manway, 127 inches up; filled by hose, tote pump or truck through a dip tube, vented outside on anything that fumes, and size the vent for the delivery pump.
- Outlet: the bulkhead fitting is chosen for the liquid at order time; flex between the bulkhead and hard pipe, and a valve braced off the pad so the fitting carries no pipe weight.
- Service limit: 120 F / 48 C.
The white wall shows the level in daylight; fit a sender read at ground level so nobody climbs for a number, and a low-level float switch keeps a pump from running dry. Put the pump below the outlet, where it primes itself, close the manway against vapor loss, and keep a light-sensitive liquid out of direct sun. In a freezing climate insulate or drain the outlet valve and the first run of pipe; the body takes ice from the top down without harm.
First load in
A delivery truck's pump can push air out faster than a stock vent can pass it, so the vent is sized for the unload rate or the fill goes through a dedicated top bulkhead with its own vent line. The fill pipe reaches the floor, so the liquid enters below the surface instead of free-falling and foaming. The first tanker into a new tank is a supervised job, slab edge and outlet fitting checked as it fills, and from then on each load is logged by date and strength.
The log entry
Once a season, with the tank as low as the schedule allows, open the manway in daylight and look at the headspace wall and the underside of the top for chalking, crazing or a change in color; that is where a polyethylene wall ages first, and the wetted wall below tells you nothing. Check the outlet fitting for a weep, the strap for tension, and the pad edge for a crack or a gap, and write the date and what was seen on the log.
