Chemical compatibility
This is an XLPE shell rated to 1.5 specific gravity. At that rating the tank is suitable for the following chemicals when the wetted fittings and gaskets are specified correctly: Acetic Acid at 60% (PP/PVC fittings, EPDM gasket — details), Aluminum Sulfate at 50% (PVC, EPDM), Calcium Chloride at 40% (PVC, EPDM), DEF at 32.5% (316SS fittings, EPDM), Ferrous Sulfate at 20% (PVC, EPDM), Magnesium Chloride at 30% (PVC, EPDM), Sodium Carbonate at 30% (PVC, EPDM), Urea Solution at 50% (PP/PVC, EPDM), and Ozonated Water up to 10 PPM (PVC, EPDM). One callout for the DEF crowd: diesel exhaust fluid (32.5% urea) is the single chemistry here specified with 316SS wetted hardware rather than PVC or PP — pairing DEF with PVC fittings is the exact spec mistake that contaminates the fluid, so hold to 316SS and EPDM. Always confirm the specific chemical, concentration, and service temperature for your application before committing, since compatibility is concentration- and temperature-specific. Chemicals that need a higher-S.G. tank
Several heavier chemistries exceed what a 1.5 S.G. shell should carry and require a 1.9 S.G. tank instead — do not store them in this one. Those include Ethylene Glycol, Ferric Chloride, Ferric Sulfate, Hydrofluosilicic Acid, Polyaluminum Chloride, Potassium Carbonate, Potassium Hydroxide, Propylene Glycol, and Sodium Thiosulfate. Hydrofluosilicic acid is the exception within the exception: it needs both the 1.9 S.G. tank AND Viton gaskets rather than EPDM — two upgrades, not one, so do not step up the tank and reuse EPDM hardware. If your chemistry is on this list, move to the 1.9 S.G. version rather than overloading this tank.
The mistake to avoid
The single most common error on a tank this size is specifying the shell correctly but ignoring the wetted hardware and the gauge. Every chemical above lists its own fitting and gasket material for a reason — an EPDM gasket where Viton is required, or a PVC fitting on a chemistry that needs 316SS, will fail long before the XLPE wall does.
