Snyder Industries 5500 Gallon HDPE Vertical Liquid Storage Tank with ASTM Certification

The full-density wall, eighteen and a half feet up

A 1.9 specific gravity wall is sized for a liquid nearly twice as dense as water, and 2,000 pounds of resin is what that takes on the tallest shell in the line, 500 pounds more than the certified 1.5 wall in the same mold. The 7020000N43 is the certified 1.5 wall in this same shell, 500 pounds lighter, for coagulants and brines that never approach this density. The 7000000 tanks stand the same 5,500 gallons on a 120 inch base at 132 inches, 89 inches shorter, for a site with a bigger pad and less height, the N45 certified at this same 1.9 and the N40, N42 and N46 in cross-linked and linear grades. The 5250000N40 and 7000400C26 lay 5,600 and 5,400 gallons down on a 142 inch base at 102 and 91 inches.

Where the pipe goes

• Access: 18 inch threaded, vented manway, 221 inches up; on acid or caustic the vent goes outdoors, the fill goes down a dip tube, and the vent is sized to the tanker pump.
• Outlet: order the bulkhead fitting in the material the chemical calls for; a flanged transition, an expansion joint, and a valve supported off the slab.
• Service limit: 120 F / 48 C.
• Snyder line: ASTM.

A sender matched to the chemical, read at ground level, means nobody goes up for a reading; a closed manway keeps the vapor in, and a light-sensitive chemical gets shade. Regulated chemical in a single wall tank means a berm sized to the tank around it. In a cold climate the outlet valve and the first run of pipe are insulated or drained.

Bringing in a load

A tanker unloads faster than the manway can breathe, so the vent is sized for the pump or the fill takes a dedicated top bulkhead with its own vent. The fill pipe runs to the floor so caustic or coagulant does not free-fall and foam; on a shell this tall that is a long drop. A dense liquid heats when water is added to it, so a batch tank is filled with water before the chemical, never after. The first delivery into a new tank is watched from start to finish, with the slab edge and the outlet fitting checked as the level climbs, and each delivery after it is logged with its date and strength.

The work it does

Ferric and other dense coagulants at a plant with a berm and no floor space, acid feed for pH control, heavy brine at plant scale, dense process chemicals delivered by tanker inside a tall building, and water where the buyer wants the heaviest certified wall, including a fire reserve of the kind the fire-water reservoir design guide describes.
