Fittings and access
- Access: 18 inch threaded, vented manway, 140 inches up; filled by truck through a dip tube, vented outside on anything that fumes, and size the vent for a tanker's unload rate.
- Outlet: tell us the liquid when ordering and the bulkhead fitting is matched to it; a flexible connector between the bulkhead and hard pipe, an expansion joint, and the valve supported off the slab.
- Service limit: 120 F.
The white wall shows the level in daylight; fit a sender read at ground level so nobody climbs for a number, and fit a low-level float switch so a pump never runs dry. Mount the pump below the outlet so it primes by gravity, keep the manway closed against vapor loss, and keep the tank out of direct sun where the liquid is light-sensitive. Where it freezes, insulate or drain the outlet valve and the first length of pipe; the body takes ice from the top down without harm.
The first delivery
The truck's pump outruns the manway vent, so size the vent for the unload rate or give the fill its own top bulkhead and vent line. A fill pipe to the floor keeps the liquid from free-falling and foaming. Somebody stands at the tank for the whole of the first delivery, watching the slab edge and the outlet fitting as the level rises, and the log takes the date and strength of every load that follows.
