The Norwesco 1035 Gallon HDPE Horizontal Elliptical Leg Tank ships with Norwesco's standard fitting package and is built for the working life of a sprayer trailer, nurse rig, or field-transport skid. The elliptical leg-tank profile sits low and self-supporting on its molded legs, so the load rides stable on a trailer instead of perched up high. It holds 1035 gallons in High Density Linear Polyethylene, carries a 1.5 specific gravity rating, and measures 54 inches high by 79 inches wide by 89 inches long on a 79.0 x 89.0 inch footprint. The blue body shades the contents and lets you eyeball the liquid level through the wall.

Will it handle your load

This is a haul tank, so weight is the number that decides the job. Filled with water at 1.0 specific gravity, the tank and contents reach about 8,632 pounds. At the full 1.5 specific gravity rating it is engineered to carry up to 12,948 pounds of contents. That step from water to a full 1.5-SG product adds roughly 4,316 pounds, and that delta is what decides your trailer, axle, and tow-vehicle rating. Size to the heavier of those two figures for the product you actually haul, not to water alone. The Tank Sizing Calculator and Tank Sizing Guide help you match this horizontal leg tank to your gallons-per-acre and refill cadence before you commit. Check the technical drawing on this page for outlet size and placement before you plumb the manifold.

Chemical compatibility

The tank shell is HDLPE rated to 1.5 specific gravity. At that rating it suits a range of ag and water-treatment liquids when you match the fitting and gasket materials to the chemical. Confirm chemical resistance against Norwesco's chemical-resistance chart for your exact concentration and temperature before filling, and pick fittings and gaskets accordingly:

The mistake to avoid on this tank is the specific gravity ceiling. This is a 1.5 SG shell, and several common treatment chemicals are heavy enough to need a 1.9 specific gravity tank instead - among them Ethylene Glycol, Ferric Chloride, Ferric Sulfate, Hydrochloric Acid, Hydrofluoric Acid, Hydrofluosilicic Acid, Hydrogen Peroxide, Peracetic Acid, Phosphoric Acid, Polyaluminum Chloride, Potassium Carbonate, Potassium Hydroxide, Propylene Glycol, Sodium Bisulfate, Sodium Bisulfite, Sodium Hypochlorite, Sodium Thiosulfate, Sulfuric Acid, and Zinc Orthophosphate. These are not just heavier: Hydrochloric Acid, Sodium Hypochlorite, Sulfuric Acid, Hydrogen Peroxide, Peracetic Acid, Phosphoric Acid, and the hydrofluorics also call for Viton or Aflas gaskets and CPVC or 316SS fittings rather than the EPDM/PVC used elsewhere. If your product is on that list, step up to the higher-SG tank rather than risk this one, and see the chemical compatibility tool for the full picture.

Freight

This tank moves by LTL freight, quoted live to your ZIP. It is produced at Norwesco plants in Lancaster, OH; St. Bonifacius, MN; and Tooele, UT, and ships from the location nearest you to hold down transit cost and time. Run your ZIP through the Freight Cost Estimator for a live number, or call 866-418-1777 and we will quote it and confirm the closest shipping point. For sizing your fleet around DOT and trailer limits, the guide to Norwesco applicator and leg tanks for fertilizer and the 49 CFR 173.5 farm-fleet classification breakdown are worth a read, along with our look at fertilizer-blend tank stratification.
