Grades on the 73 inch double wall, and the sizes beside it

The N30 is the sulfuric acid grade, the N42 is cross-linked polyethylene for oxidizers, and the N48 is another linear grade, all at the same weight and an inch taller on the sheet. The 5040000N30 is the 550 gallon sulfuric-grade double wall on a base 3 inches wider, and the 5990102N30 is the 1,000 gallon step up at 69 inches on an 81 inch base, the same low idea a size larger. The 1700200N45 is the certified single wall at 710 gallons for a site that already has a spill pallet.

Fittings, alarms and the space between the walls

• Access: 18 inch threaded, vented manway on the primary, a short step up; fill by hose or tote pump down a dip tube, and vent to the outside if the liquid fumes.
• Outlet: through both walls together, with the transition supported off the floor; the fitting material is chosen for the chemical at order time.
• Service limit: 120 F / 48 C.

Two levels to watch: the primary, with a sender chosen for the chemical per the level gauge selection guide, and the interstitial space, which is the leak alarm and gets a float switch, a look into the port each shift, and a logged check each week. If the space is ever wet, the primary is leaking and the tank comes out of service the same day. A low, wide tank cannot tip and needs no strap; full, it puts 11,884 pounds on a 73 inch circle at the rating, which a slab in full contact carries. Mount the dosing pump below the outlet so it primes by gravity, and size the vent for a delivery truck's pump if the tank is filled from one.

What it holds in practice

Coagulant, caustic and hypochlorite storage inside occupied buildings with a low ceiling, brine for a softener bank, acid and inhibitor feed at cooling towers, and any three-tote chemical tank at a site an inspector visits and the certification has to be on file. Label it, keep one chemical in it, and keep the manway shut against vapor loss.
