Fittings and access

• Access: 18 inch threaded, vented manway, 127 inches up; vent outside on acid and caustic service, fill through a dip tube, and size the vent for the delivery pump.
• Outlet: specify the bulkhead fitting for the chemical when ordering; a flanged transition and a valve supported off the pad, in the material the chemical calls for.
• Service limit: 120 F / 48 C.

The level sender is chosen for the chemical and read from the ground, not the platform; keep the manway closed against vapor loss, and shade the tank where the chemical is light-sensitive. For a regulated chemical a single wall tank stands in a berm sized to it. Label it so the fire inspector and the workplace inspector read the same thing. If winters freeze, wrap or drain the outlet valve and the first pipe run.

Filling from a delivery truck

A delivery truck's pump can push air out faster than a stock vent can pass it, so the vent is sized for the unload rate or the fill goes through a dedicated top bulkhead with its own vent line. The fill pipe reaches the floor, so caustic or coagulant enters below the surface instead of free-falling and foaming. If the tank is ever used to dilute a batch, water goes in first and the chemical second; the other order boils. Watch the first delivery from the first gallon to the last, checking the slab edge and the outlet fitting as the level rises, and the log takes the date and strength of every load that follows.
