Outlet and manway

• Access: 18 inch threaded, vented manway, 140 inches up; fill down a dip tube, run the vent outside on acid and caustic, and size it for the unload rate.
• Outlet: order the bulkhead fitting in the material the chemical calls for; a flanged transition, an expansion joint, and a valve supported off the slab.
• Service limit: 120 F.

Choose the level sender for the chemical and read it at ground level so nobody climbs for a number; vapor stays in a closed manway, and a chemical that does not like sunlight stands in shade. A single wall tank of a regulated liquid lives inside a berm that holds the whole tank. Label it so the fire inspector and the workplace inspector read the same thing. In a cold climate the outlet valve and the first run of pipe are insulated or drained.

Taking a tanker load

A tanker unloads faster than the manway can breathe, so the vent is sized for the pump or the fill takes a dedicated top bulkhead with its own vent. Run the fill pipe to the floor; caustic and coagulant foam when they fall through air. A dense chemical gives off heat when it meets water, so a batch is made water first and chemical second, never the reverse. Nobody walks away during the first fill: the slab edge and the outlet fitting are checked as the level climbs, and every delivery after that goes in the log with a date and a strength.
