8,750 gallons at 1.9 specific gravity on a twelve foot base, ASTM certified

The Snyder 5360100N45 is a white polyethylene vertical liquid storage tank, 142 inches across and 146 inches tall, holding 8,750 gallons at 2,400 pounds. Its wall is rated for a specific gravity of 1.9, or 138,652 pounds of contents against 72,975 for water, the chemical-grade wall for ferric chloride at strength, concentrated acids and the heavy brines, it is sold with ASTM certification for jobs that need the paper, and the twelve foot base puts a tanker load of dense chemical and a full reserve under a twelve and a half foot roof. It comes with an 18 inch threaded, vented manway and a 3 year warranty, and it leaves the plant as oversize freight.

Sixty-nine tons of chemical, low to the ground

A 1.9 specific gravity wall is sized for a liquid nearly twice as dense as water, and 2,400 pounds of resin is what that takes at 8,750 gallons, 400 pounds more than the certified 1.5 wall in the same mold. The certification is against ASTM D1998; the HDPE tank wall thickness guide explains the sizing logic and why the headspace is where a wall ages. The shape is the low one: 138,652 pounds on a 142 inch circle sits close to the ground and needs the least strapping in the line, but the widest floor spans any hollow in a gravel base and cracks there when full, so the pad is an engineered slab in full contact under the whole circle, per the concrete pad sizing guide, inside a berm sized to the tank. The tank sizing calculator sizes the volume to feed rate and delivery interval, and the tank sizing guide covers the reserve, which for a dense chemical includes freeboard for thermal expansion.

The N43 is the certified 1.5 wall in this same shell, 400 pounds lighter, for coagulants and brines that never approach this density; the N42 is the heavy cross-linked tank at this tank's weight for the densest oxidizers, and the N40 and N46 the lighter grades. The 7400000 tanks stand 8,500 and 8,900 gallons on a 120 inch base at 194 inches, 48 inches taller, for a site with height and less floor, the N45 this same certified 1.9 wall in a heavier shell.

Still deciding between these? Freight to your ZIP often settles it; the wider tanks ship differently. Or call 866-418-1777 and we will walk the table with you.

Access and outlet

  • Access: 18 inch threaded, vented manway, 146 inches up; vent outside on acid and caustic service, a dip tube for the fill, and a vent big enough for a tanker's pump.
  • Outlet: the bulkhead fitting is chosen for the chemical at order time; a flanged transition, an expansion joint, and a valve supported off the slab.
  • Service limit: 120 F / 48 C.
  • Listing: ASTM certification.

Choose the level sender for the chemical and read it at ground level; the manway stays shut so vapor stays in the tank, and a chemical that sunlight degrades gets a shade or a roof. A single wall tank of regulated chemical stands inside a berm sized to it, and a berm around a twelve foot tank takes floor, so plan it with the pad. In a freezing climate insulate or drain the outlet valve and the first run of pipe.

Fill day

The truck's pump outruns the manway vent, so size the vent for the unload rate or give the fill its own top bulkhead and vent line. The fill pipe reaches the floor, so caustic or coagulant enters below the surface instead of free-falling and foaming. If the tank is ever used to dilute a batch, water goes in first and the chemical second; the other order boils. Somebody stands at the tank for the whole of the first delivery, watching the slab edge and the outlet fitting as the level rises, and the log takes the date and strength of every load that follows.

Put to use

Ferric and other dense coagulants under a lower roof with a berm, acid feed for pH control, heavy brine at plant scale, dense process chemicals delivered by tanker with a full reserve, and water where the buyer wants the heaviest certified wall and the lowest center of gravity, including a fire reserve of the kind the fire-water reservoir design guide describes. Never two chemicals in one tank, and one label that satisfies both inspectors.

How it ships

At 142 inches across the 5360100N45 is oversize freight (NMFC 156600) on a flatbed at a lane rate, wider than most loads on the road, so the estimator's lane matters; the freight cost estimator prices the move to your ZIP, and the price on this page is before freight. A crane or a forklift with long forks sets 2,400 pounds on the slab, and the slab is checked flat before the tank lands. Test it on water first, to the manway, held, then drained and dried before any chemical is connected; file the certification with the job. A strap that is checked once a season is a strap that holds; put it on the same calendar as the gutters.
