The oxidizer tank in the heaviest wall

Cross-linked polyethylene is a different molecule from the linear grade: the chains are bonded to each other during molding, so an oxidizer that would slowly crack a linear wall has nothing to work on, and the tank lasts in service the linear tank would not. On top of that resin a 1.9 wall is sized for a liquid nearly twice as dense as water, which is what 2,000 pounds of resin buys, 550 pounds more than the lighter cross-linked grade in the same mold. Full, it puts 102,999 pounds on a 120 inch circle at the rating: an engineered slab in full contact under the whole floor, inside a berm sized to the tank, a wind strap on the empty tank, and access to the manway from a fixed platform with a rail. The N40 is the lighter cross-linked wall for oxidizers that never approach this density; the N45 is the linear 1.9 wall at this tank's weight, for dense chemicals that do not oxidize, and the N43, N39, N33 and N46 the lighter linear grades. What is fitted

• Access: 18 inch threaded, vented manway, 153 inches up; vent outside on hypochlorite and peroxide service, the fill goes through a dip tube and the vent is sized for the tanker, not the tank.
• Outlet: name the chemical when ordering so the bulkhead fitting matches it; a flanged transition, an expansion joint, and a valve supported off the slab.
• Service limit: 120 F / 48 C.
• Snyder line: ASTM.

Pick a level sender rated for the chemical and bring its reading to ground level, so the number never needs a climb; keep the manway closed against vapor loss, and shade the tank, because hypochlorite in sun loses strength faster. Regulated chemical in a single wall tank means a berm sized to the tank around it. Insulate or drain the outlet valve and the first run of pipe wherever the ground freezes.

When the truck arrives

A tanker's pump moves liquid faster than a manway vent can pass air, so either the vent is sized to the unload rate or the fill comes in through its own top bulkhead with a separate vent line. The fill pipe runs to the floor so the chemical does not free-fall and foam. The first tanker into a new tank is a supervised job, slab edge and outlet fitting checked as it fills, and each delivery after it is logged with its date and strength; for hypochlorite the log is also the turnover schedule.

Applications

Sodium hypochlorite bulk storage at a water or wastewater plant, hydrogen peroxide at industrial scale, dense oxidizers by tanker, and water where the buyer wants the toughest wall in the line, including a fire reserve of the kind the fire-water reservoir design guide describes. A crane or a forklift with long forks sets 2,000 pounds on the slab. Water-fill it once to the manway, hold it, then drain and dry before the chemical connection is made. Mark the vent and the outlet on the outside of the shell so nobody caps the wrong one in the dark.
